What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy was discovered by a man named Dr. Andrew Taylor Still during the mid-late 1800s. He was a doctor who grew frustrated with the conventional system and began exploring anatomy & principles of nature. He discovered that when he adjusted the body's alignment from abnormal back to normal, things got better!

How Osteopathy Works

By improving fluid dynamics throughout the whole body, you feel better because your body is better aligned, and therefore better capable of healing on its own.

Using a full body approach, we can make sure that systems such as your muscles, nerves, hormones and others can work together, because everything is connected.

What does assessment look like?

A good practitioner spends a lot of time on assessment, because you are interested in finding and treating the cause, not the symptom.

The goal of assessment is to determine the alignment of your body as a whole, as well as individual joints that may be contributing to your problems.

We assess the body from the superficial layer down to the deep layer. Maybe you have connective tissue restrictions, or muscular discomfort, or perhaps you have restrictions in the deep ligamentous layers of the body. Maybe all of the above!

How do we treat the body?

We do not use cracking or excessive force because that is outside our scope of practice.

You start feeling better because we treat the body as a whole, using gentle manipulations. We may shorten or lengthen tissues or muscles that are pulling the bones out of place. We may kink or twist the body in order to fix asymmetries in your posture.

Often, its a combination of these things. Therefore, every treatment is different because it is always based on the specific findings on that specific day.

Despite all that, the goal is always to liberate the nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics. This allows the body to heal and self regulate, and you can start to feel better in as little as a single treatment.

Speed up recovery time by having your body gently realigned.
